EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

New East St. Louis Mayor Emeka Jackson-Hicks is speaking for the first time since she demoted for former Police Chief Michael Floore.

“The administration has to be able to trust him. Trust that he will have the best interest of the city at heart,” Jackson-Hicks said.

Jackson-Hicks did not elaborate on what she meant by “lack of trust in Floore.” Floore is now a detective and Felix Arnold has been named interim chief. Arnold has been on the force for seven years.

“Right now the changes are ongoing, nothing is set in stone. We have to make sure what we do is the best choice for the city moving forward,” Jackson-Hicks said. “We are doing the best that we can to maintain a positive morale. Some feelings may be hurt, that’s not our intent, we want to do what’s best.”

The city is still searching for a permanent police chief. Floore declined to comment on the story.
