ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Cool Down St. Louis is seeking donations to help provide assistance to residents in need, amid rising temperatures.

The organization is working to donate air conditioners and utility payment assistance to help senior citizens and people with disabilities.

"We are encouraging the elderly to turn on their cooling systems, and don't worry about the bill," said Chairman Rev. Earl Nance. "Let us help with the bill, so they can stay alive."

Officials are also asking volunteers to pass out 20,000 flyers that remind people to check on their family and neighbors during the hot weather.

Cool Down has served more than one million residents in need in the last 11 years.
