Jon boats used to evade police in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO (KMOV.com) – Police in Franklin County are looking for a suspect after two boats were used to evade police Sunday morning.

According to police, a dark colored small Chevrolet truck with two Jon boats in the bed of the truck were cut lose after a deputy was noticed by the driver. The truck was traveling east on highway 100 toward Coleman Elementary School.

After noticing the officers vehicle, the driver cut through the Coleman Elementary parking lot and turned north onto Coleman Rd. The officer attempted to catch up with the vehicle that was going approximately 80 miles an hour in a 40 mile per hour zone.

When the officer caught up to the truck he observed someone inside the vehicle reach out and cut the strap that secured the boats in the bed of the truck. The boats then fell out of the truck into the middle of the street.

In order to avoid any oncoming traffic from hitting the boats the officer stopped chasing the suspect and blocked the roadway. The boats were found to be stolen from a farm in Washington County.

The investigation is ongoing.
