St. Clair County Fair canceled

BELLEVILLE, Ill. ( – The St. Clair County Fair is canceled due to budget cuts throughout Illinois, organizers said.

According to the fair’s website, 161 years after the first St. Clair County Fair was held it will be coming to an end. Fair officials said it was a hard decision but something had to be done.

According to the Belleville News Democrat, the St. Clair County Fair received almost $69,000 from the state last year. When Gov. Bruce Rauner announced more budget cuts last month, fair funding was on the chopping block.

Last year, the state gave around $3.1 million to county fairs around Illinois.

Fairs in Madison and Monroe County are still scheduled to take place.
