ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The lanes southbound Interstate 270 at Dougherty Ferry have reopened after a tractor trailer accident early Friday morning.

A car driving along the roadway lost control and cut off the tractor trailer, causing it to swerve, go under the Dougherty Ferry Bridge and crash into the grass and concrete barrier, forcing the roadway closed around 3 a.m.

The tractor trailer had a ruptured fuel tank which began leaking onto the roadway. According to police in Des Peres, an environmental crew came out to assist in the cleaning the fuel.

All southbound traffic was directed off the roadway at the Dougherty Ferry exit.

The cause of the accident is unknown.

Authorities have not released any other information.
