Man who allegedly drove drunk during chase still not charged

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – The Franklin County prosecutor has yet to charge a man police said drove drunk during a chase and nearly injured two deputies.

Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke said the 34-year-old driver was first spotted by police running a red light on Highway 47 at Independence Drive in Union. The driver nearly hit one deputy at the intersection.

Toelke said the driver then almost hit another deputy at the intersection of Clearview Drive and Highway A. Authorities were able to stop him using spike strips.

“They ordered him out of the car and he started to get out of the car, but then started to go back in and started closing the door. They were concerned about him taking off again, so they shot him with a taser,” Toelke said.

Toelke hopes the man will be charged with resisting arrest and assault on a law enforcement officer. However, the prosecuting attorney is waiting on blood toxicology test results, which may not be known for a month.
