NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

A man accused of driving while drunk with his children on board faces several felony charges in connection with an alleged hit-and-run accident.

Police said Raymond Ross was intoxicated when he struck an unsuspecting driver and passenger, slamming them into a guardrail on Eastbound I-270 near Bellefontaine Road.

"The Dodge Magnum hit a guardrail and overturned several times in the ditch and landed on its roof," said Interim Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Chief Jeremy Ihler.

Ross allegedly fled the scene, but police said they found his bumper and license plate at the crash site, which was used to track him down.

According to authorities, Ross' wife and three children ages 1, 6, and 8 were inside the car when the accident happened.

St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch, whose office will handle this case, said his goal is to keep the alleged drunk driver in jail.

"Anytime any drunk is behind the wheel of a car it's a huge public safety issue," said McCulloch.

The condition of the victims has not been released.

Ross' wife was reportedly sober, but it is unknown why she did not drive the vehicle.
