Construction on Highway 94 delayed due to rain set to begin soon

(KMOV.com) – Work on Highway 94 near Defiance that was supposed to start in June is scheduled to begin soon if the weather cooperates.

The project was supposed to start June 15, but has been delayed because flooding has been a problem in area where the work will take place.  If weather conditions are right, the work is scheduled to start July 13 and the stretch of Highway 94 will completely close.

MoDOT’s plan is to raise the road so flooding is no longer a problem.

“I see why they’re raising the road because it has been an issue, it needs to be raised,” said Chris Lorch with the nearby Sugar Creek Winery.

MoDOT said the contractor will have 60 days to finish the project once work begins. Traffic will be detoured.

Sugar Creek Winery said it has received phone calls from customers asking if the winery is open and accessible. The winery said it is possible to get there by detour.
