ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- The former QuikTrip gas station in Ferguson, which was looted and set on fire in August, began its revitalization as a new Urban League center during a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday.

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis announced plans to build the center on the site of the burned down QuikTrip in March. In the announcement, QuikTrip said they will be donating the land to the organization.

At the new center, the Urban League plans to broaden access to education and job training, employment and economic self-reliance for residents of the St. Louis area, the organization said in a press release.

During the March press conference, the organization said the new center will also offer counseling for housing, rent, utility assistance and mental health services.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place at 9420 West Florissant Avenue on Thursday morning.
