Firefighters responded to a St. Charles County home after a two-alarm fire broke out Tuesday morning.

The blaze destroyed a home in the 1600 block of Lily Marie Lane in Wentzville after breaking out before 4 a.m.

Members of the family who lived in the home told News 4 they feel devastated, but very lucky that they all got out alive.

"I don't know if it was a minute later what we would've done. All the doors were on fire, there was no way for us to get out," said Courtney Dockler.

Dockler, her grandma and uncle were able to navigate their way through the flames to escape the home.

"My grandma hollered, my uncle got up, ran to the living room, it was on fire," Dockler said. "She's in a wheelchair, so there's an added problem to that, helping her get out of the house safely."

In the light of day, the family was able to scavenge through the ashes to see what the fire spared, but there was little they could salvage.

"A couple of pictures, but other than that, everything is gone," Dockler said.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
