A 10-year-old girl almost drowned in the Meramec River during a family camping trip at Meramec State Park in Franklin County on July 4.
The girl, a parent and another 10-year-old were on a raft ride in the river when the raft hit a tree branch, flipped and ejected the family.
All family members were reportedly wearing life jackets, but the girl's life jacket got caught on an underwater limb and held her under the water.
The girl was held underwater for approximately five minutes before some adults were able to swim to the girl and free her.
A nurse om the river's shore was able to revive the girl, who was unconscious when she was pulled out of the river.
The victim was taken to Children's Hospital.
