Officer recovering after being dragged by vehicle

(KMOV.com) – A police officer is recovering after being dragged by a car in Northwoods.

The officer was responding to a theft call near Pasadena and Lucas and Hunt. She and another officer spotted the suspect in the passenger seat of a car parked in the lot. Officers asked the driver to step out of the car, and they complied. However, the suspect slid into the driver's seat and began driving off. 

The officer tried to arrest the suspect, but ended up hanging from the car door and was dragged for several hundred feet.

The officer was treated for a facial fracture and is expected to make a full recovery. Police pursued the the suspect, but lost sight of them on westbound I-70. The car was later found abandoned on Natural Bridge and 170.

The investigation is ongoing.
