STL Police Department increasing security this weekend

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – The St. Louis Police Department has dozens of officers at Fair St. Louis to keep families safe, specifically since ISIS has threatened “Lone Wolf” attacks across the United States during the Fourth of July weekend.

“There are no specific threats to St. Louis, no specific threats to Fair St. Louis, but we’ve ramped up our response,” said Chief Sam Dotson. “Starting outside of the park, officers are visible in the neighborhoods, and when you get in the park, officers are in reflective vests.” Dotson says officers are also in plain clothing.

Officers say anyone who is planning on attending Fair St. Louis should expect TSA-like checkpoints. “Bags will be checked and there will be no alcohol or coolers allowed,” Dotson said.

Officials say on Thursday night, they had between 40,000 and 50,000 people at Fair St. Louis and are expecting even larger crowds this weekend.
