BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A pool of mosquitoes collected in Belleville tested positive for West Nile on Tuesday, according to the Illinois Department of Health

In May 2015, another batch of mosquitoes carrying the virus was detected in O'Fallon, Illinois.

However, health officials said the second finding of West Nile mosquitoes does not necessarily indicate a bad year for the disease. Officials said larger numbers of the mosquitoes generally pose no serious threat and do not carry West Nile.

It is advised to throw out any standing water around your home as added precaution.
