JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO (KMOV.com) – An initiative to help drivers in Jefferson County understand the hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an impaired condition led to five arrests.

“Operation A.R.R.E.S.T.” (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike) was conducted from 7 p.m. Friday, June 26, till 3 a.m. Saturday June 27. During those eight hours six officers focused their efforts on identifying dangerous vehicle violations.

“If drinking alcohol is a part of your plans, please choose a sober designated driver,” said Missouri State Highway Patrol Captain Ronald Johnson.

According to police, roughly 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are not at the time of an accident. Police urge drivers to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle has their seat belt on.
