MARINE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A man is charged with aggravated battery after he allegedly brandished a knife at officers during a homecoming event in Marine, Illinois.

Police Chief Chris Singleton said officers confronted William Woods because he was getting into an altercation with other patrons.

Instead of cooperating with police, Woods allegedly pulled out a knifed and attempted to slash Chief Singleton.

"We didn't know that he had a knife at the time, but he slid a knife down into his hand and turned around and swung the knife blade at me," said Chief Singleton.

Two nearby officers tackled Woods and arrested him.

No one was injured during the incident.
