Woman screams for help at Witt City Hall after fatally stabbing boyfriend, police say

WITT, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A woman arrived at Witt City Hall screaming for help after she fatally stabbed her boyfriend Monday night, police said.

Around 7:50 p.m., Kristi V. Stevens, 23, told a person at city hall her boyfriend, Richard D. Green, 41, attacked her at their home in the 200 block of Mitchell Street. Stevens said she stabbed Green while protecting herself and her 2-year-old child.

When law enforcement responded to city hall, they noticed multiple visual injuries on Stevens.

Authorities drove to the couple's home where they found Green dead around 8:10 p.m.

Stevens was taken to a nearby hospital after the incident.

Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Montgomery County Coroner's Office, Witt Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office are continuing the investigation.

No arrests have been made.

Witt, Illinois is located roughly 75 miles from downtown St. Louis.
