SULLIVAN, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A Sullivan man was taken into custody after he reportedly tried to suffocate his mother with a pillow while she was undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Shane A. Rodgers, 43, went to the hospital where his 78-year-old mother was recuperating after having a stroke and attempted to suffocate her using a pillow, authorities said.

According to officials, four members of the hospital staff witnessed Rodgers try to suffocate his mother.

Rodgers allegedly held the pillow over her face for a few seconds before hospital security was able to remove him.

Witnesses to the incident said Rodgers seemed to be inebriated.

Rodgers was charged with second degree assault and is being held on $65,000 bond.
