ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A St. Charles road rage incident occurred when a passerby tried to intervene in an argument between a 26-year-old man and his girlfriend, police said.

William Shannon, 26, of St. Charles, was charged with two counts of second degree assault after ramming the car od a man who tried to help Shannon's girlfriend.

Shannon and his girlfriend were arguing while driving down Old Highway 94, when the woman asked Shannon to pull over in a parking lot so she could get out.

The two were still arguing, police said, when a passerby pulled up next to the couple and asked if the woman was okay and if she needed a ride.

Authorities said the woman asked the passerby to take her to the police station because she was afraid of what Shannon might do.

As the woman got into the man's car, Shannon reportedly told the man the situation was not any of his business and threatened the man.

Shannon followed the two out of the parking lot and rammed the man's vehicle, then allegedly intentionally swerved into the car in an attempt to knock it off the road, authorities said.

After he was arrested later on, police said he admitted to what he did.

Shannon is being held at St. Charles County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
