GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A St. Louis man was killed in a car accident in Granite City after being shot at a club in Venice Sunday morning.

Lonnie Christopher Roberson, 38, was killed when the vehicle he was in exited the roadway at 15th Street and Madison Avenue and struck multiple utility poles at a high rate of speed, police said. The Granite City Police Department found the vehicle on its roof.

Authorities said there was another man inside the car at the time of the accident. Police believe that man was the driver of the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed Roberson was being driven to a hospital following a multi-victim shooting at L.T.'s Lounge in Venice, Illinois. The Venice Police Department said six people sustained non-serious injuries in the shooting.

Authorities conducted an autopsy on Roberson and said a projectile was recovered from his right knee. The coroner said the preliminary autopsy results indicates the cause of death to be from blunt force injuries sustained during the crash and not the gunshot wound.
