Central West End armed robberies connected, police say

Posted: Updated:
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Police believe two recent armed robberies in the Central West End are connected.

Early Tuesday morning, two people were robbed at gunpoint in the 4000 block of McPherson, between North Sarah and Vandeventer.

When one of the victims ran away calling for help, suspects fired shots at him.

Less than an hour later, two people were robbed at gunpoint on Maryland Avenue near North Taylor.

Through Wednesday, there have been 36 robberies reported in the Central West End neighborhood so far this year.

That is an increase of 72 percent since last year in the neighborhood.

"The resources that I have, I believe we are addressing it properly within the district. So, right now there are a couple robberies I am concerned about," said Captain John Hayden of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. "I have extra resources with the respect of patrols as plain clothes officers."

Police work with the Central West End Security Initiative, which monitors 80 security cameras in the neighborhood.
