The new Boone Bridge, which will carry Interstate 64 traffic across the Missouri River is complete and almost ready to open.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday to mark the completion of construction on the eastbound bridge.

Crews still need to stripe traffic lanes and move concrete barriers before the bridge can open to traffic.

Some area leaders worry that the new bridge could be one the last MoDOT projects in the area due to budget concerns.

"MoDOT is basically switching over into entirely maintenance and building no more projects. In fact, they are not even planning new projects, something we are complaining about," said St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann. "When money does become available, we can start building them right away."

Crews will have two lanes of eastbound I-64 closed between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday to make the switch from the old bridge to the new one.

Traffic is expected to be moving across the bridge by Monday at 5 a.m.
