St. Louis Police Officers Association donating to help youth shooting victims

Posted: Updated:

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The St. Louis Police Officers Association will donate two separate $1,000 checks to local children's hospitals on Friday.

The checks will be presented to St. Louis Children's Hospital and Cardinal Glennon Hospital at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The officers that handled 6-year-old Marcus Johnson's fatal shooting will present the checks. Johnson was killed by stray gunfire during an outing with his family at O'Fallon Park.

“Marcus Johnson is emblematic of all the infants, toddlers and adolescents that our officers have scooped up into their arms and rushed to an Emergency Room in their blood-soaked uniform holding out hope against hope that for once the story ends happily instead of tragically. That's not the way it ended for young Marcus. His life was cut tragically short as is all too often the case,” SLPOA Business Manager Jeff Roorda said.

The donations will be used to help all youth shooting victims.
