COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A Sedalia man who was serving a life sentence in prison died on Saturday, officials confirmed.

Joseph Arbeiter, 67, was serving a life sentence without parole at Crossroads Correctional Center after confessing to dismembering and murdering 35-year-old Mandy Black of Marshall. Black's body parts were found in and around Arbeiter's trailer home in May 2014.

Maintenance workers found two arms in a metal box while cleaning out Arbeiter's trailer, according to authorities.

At the time Black's remains were found, Arbeiter was in jail on charges of attempted rape and sodomy of a neighbor.

Arbeiter was sentenced to life in prison in 1963 for murder when he was 15, but the life sentence was overturned due to issues with how police obtained his confession as a juvenile.

The Department of Corrections said Arbeiter died in a Columbia hospital of what were believed to be natural causes.
