ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A 19-year-old man was wounded by gunshot while traveling on Interstate 70 near the Salisbury exit early Sunday morning.

Police say around 2:23 a.m., five passengers were traveling westbound when unknown suspects started firing at them from a blue Dodge Durango and white Buick LeSabre.

"St. Louis is getting hectic, too much violence," said Alicea Gage. "I don't think folks are killing just to be killing. I think there is always something behind it."

The victims pulled over to the side of the highway. The victim was conveyed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the calf. The other four victims were uninjured.

"I wish there were other ways to solve problems and not shoot each other," said Kevin Agostini.

The Durango was recovered abandoned and unoccupied near Goodfellow at Interstate 70.

Police said they did not have anyone available to speak about what is being done to ensure the safety of drivers on interstates on Monday.

The investigation is ongoing.
