News 4 viewers stepped up to the plate to help a 6-year-old girl from St. Charles who had her “little free library” stolen from her family's front porch.

Rebecca Short and her three children bought and decorated a cabinet to use as a free library after her daughter saw an ad for Little Free Libraries.

"I just thought it was cool," said 6-year-old Reese Short.

However, the cabinets suddenly went missing two weeks after they opened the library up.

Rebecca Short told News 4 she has received more than 40 emails offering books. Short also said a retired firefighter has offered to build the family a new set of cabinets for the library.

Short said she may encourage some friends to set up similar libraries because of the support displayed by News 4 viewers. Even though her family was victim of theft, she believes some good will come out of it because her children are seeing how willing to help people are.

Anyone interested in donating books to the Short family's new little library can send an email to lostlittlelibrary@gmail.com.
