ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The rising water across the St. Louis area could mean the flood gates will be closed.

Officials with CityArchRiver sent an e-mail Wednesday stating the river level is predicted to be at 33.7, which could mean the flood gates will be closed until Sunday when the river is expected to crest.

Construction crews raised the Leonor K. Sullivan two-and-a-half feet hoping flood waters would not impact the stretch of roadway. Wednesday afternoon water was gushing up the ramps to the Leonor K. Sullivan. According to those spearheading the project, water could lap up at the top of the new flood walls when the river crests this weekend.

Overall, officials said they expect the road to remain dry.
