Mehlville homeowner seeks answers for repeated basement flooding

MEHLVILLE, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Discovering a flooded basement after heavy rains hit, can be frustrating to some homeowners.

Kelly Kuhlmann of Mehlville said he recently measured one foot of water in his basement, which has flooded nearly eight times since November.

“It just comes in from every angle, nowhere in particular, just everywhere all of a sudden,” he said.

The flood forced Kuhlmann to put his furniture on tables and chairs, as pumps work to push water out a back window.

Kuhlmann has lived in the home for 18 years. He said the flooding started recently, and he wants to know why it's happening.

Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) officials said they are aware of the flooding issue and have sent workers to inspect the property. However, resolving the problem is complicated.

“It has nothing to do with the sewers,” said Lance Lecomb of the MSD. “We want to help him in any way we can…but there is going to be a point when there isn't anything else we can do.”

MSD workers reportedly drew samples from the floodwater in Kuhlmann's basement for testing. The results are expected in the upcoming weeks.
