MARYVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) - A worker was trapped on Wednesday afternoon when a trench collapsed outside of a home in Maryville, Illinois.

Maryville Fire and Glen Carbon Fire responded to the scene at Westridge Court, where a trench collapsed next to a home's foundation. Firefighters said a waterline leaked causing water to go into the home's basement. The homeowner called a friend for help and the two of them dug a trench which collapsed due to rain and water from the broken water line.

According to authorities, the worker was trapped up to his waist. He was freed shortly after 3:30 Wednesday afternoon and taken to a hospital as a precaution but is expected to be okay.
