RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Both lanes of northbound Big Bend between I-64/Highway 40 and Manchester Road will be closed for a portion of the day Tuesday.

Starting at 9 a.m. crews will close the roadway for water main work. The portion of roadway is expected to be closed until the afternoon.

Monday afternoon, MSD crews had to close the same lanes for extended work on a sewer pipe.

During Monday's closure, MSD initially said the lane closures occurred because of a sewer line collapse. However, the agency later said work on an underground sewer pipe that was supposed to close the lanes until 2:00 p.m. was extended until 4:00 p.m.

Officials said traffic was diverted into a center turning lane between north and southbound lanes of Big Bend while the work was being finished.

The section of Big Bend affected carries approximately 28,000 vehicles a day, according to the St. Louis County Department of Transportation.
