BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Two men are charged after a woman was grazed by a bullet during a shooting in Belleville early Saturday morning.

Gregory Cook, 21, and Franklin Edwards, 29 are charged with aggravated battery, armed violence, and criminal damage to property. Cook has also been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

A 22-year-old woman was in the 200 block of Freedom Drive around 1:20 a.m. when she sustained a graze wound to her foot. According to police, the woman initially did not know if the injury was from a bullet or obtained while running from the shooting scene. A medical test was conducted and it was determined the wound was caused by a ricochet bullet, police said.

Police said the there was an altercation and shots were fired. Police do not believe the woman was the intended target.

The woman was treated at a hospital following the shooting and released.

When officers responded to the shooting scene they saw several spent shell casings and multiple vehicles with gunshot damage.
