A St. Charles man was killed after a small plane crashed near the Cuba, Missouri airport Sunday morning.

According to reports, A Piper 32 aircraft was heading from Branson to the Creve Coeur Airport when the pilot texted his family about turbulence in the Rolla area. The airplane crash was reported five minutes later.

Jeffery Hansen, 54, was the only person aboard the plane when it crashed, according to investigators. Hansen's dog also died in the crash.

Hansen was the owner of Hansen's Tree Service. The company posted Hansen's photo and a message on the company's website following the crash.

An FAA team is currently investigating.

The Piper 32 is a single-engine plane with a capacity of up to seven passengers.
