Police offering to patrol vacationers’ homes in St. Charles County this summer

Posted: Updated:

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Police in St. Charles County are offering extra patrols for people going on vacation this summer.

There has not been an increase in home burglaries throughout the area, police said, but they want to be proactive.

According to the St. Charles County Police Department, the presence of authorities usually deters crime but they cannot be there at all times. They said having police patrol while you are away is the first step to keeping your home or business safe. Authorities also suggest making friends, family and neighbors aware of travel plans and to make sure all doors and windows are locked.

“The vacation checks and extra patrols are added in to the regular schedule, so what the officer will do is just pay more attention to that residence or that business,” Public Affairs Officer Val Joyner said. “Sometimes they'll go up and check the locks to make sure the house is closed.”

The department said it has always offered the service but few people have taken advantage of it.
