Police chief calls for North County mayors to meet on police co-op

Posted: Updated:
VELDA CITY (KMOV.com) - The Velda City Police Chief Daniel Paulino sent a letter to area mayors calling for a private meeting between all 24 mayors within the Normandy School District.

In the letter, Chief Paulino begged leaders to work save their cities.

Chief Paulino also said there will be serious consequences if Governor Jay Nixon signs Senate Bill 5.

The bill could lower how much money cities can generate from traffic tickets. It also has court reforms to make sure people are treated fairly.

“Senate Bill 5 is going to hurt some of these cities that are dependent on revenue from traffic citations,” said Major Tony Madigan of the Normandy Police Department.

The Velda City letter is clear: mayors can only bring 1 alderman or city council member to the meeting and police officials are not welcome.

On Facebook, the Normandy Police Department made the once-private letter public and said, “This is another misguided 'cooperative' to lure cites into partnerships."

The meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday.
