ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A new car service could be coming to the City of St. Charles later this summer.

Uber is a unique car service that uses a phone app to access the user's location and match them with drivers in the area. The ride is then paid for through a credit card that is synced up to the phone.

An executive of the company plans to meet with the St. Charles City Council Tuesday night to seek approval to operate inside the city limits.

Uber has already received permission to operate in other parts of St. Charles County and the Metro East .Currently, Uber drivers can pick people up outside the city and drive them to downtown St. Louis but cannot pick someone up in the city and take them to the Metro East. In January, the Taxi Commission could vote on whether to allow Uber inside the city.

According to Uber, St. Louis is the largest city in the country that does not have the service. The company currently operates in nearly 60 countries and much smaller towns than St. Louis, including Champaign and Springfield, Illinois.
