Police said Christopher Crim and his friends drove to his old girlfriend's Caseyville home early Saturday morning to beat up her new boyfriend.

Court documents allege Anthony Pentecost found the woman outside and hit her in the head. Neighbors said the group including Crim forced themselves into the woman's home to beat up her new boyfriend.

Police said the victim's brother fired the warning shot and the intruders ran back outside.

Then Crim allegedly grabbed an object from his car and headed toward the home. That's when the homeowner shot him.

Crim later died at the hospital. His friends, Pentecost and 25 year old John Fox, are facing charges of felony home invasion and mob action. Pentecost has been charged with battery for hitting Crim's ex-girlfriend
