BRENTWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A woman is facing charges for allegedly robbing an elderly woman and nearly running over her and her sister on the Brentwood Promenade parking lot.

Deanna Smith is charged with robbery and assault. Authorities allege she was standing outside her car near World Market in the Brentwood Promenade when two elderly sisters, aged 78 and 82, walked by on their way to the store. Authorities said Smith then stole the purse belonging to the 82-year-old which was on a walker. Smith then got back into her car.

The 82-year-old then tried to get the purse back.

“She (the 82-year-old) went up to the car because she noticed that the passenger side window was half open and she'd knew it's be locked, so she was going to open the door and get her purse,” the 78-year-old woman said.

The 78-year-old sister said Smith was surprised and bumped both sisters onto a nearby curb with her car. One sister broke an ankle, the other only suffered bruises.

“She said it never entered her mind about being hurt or anything like that. The only thing she had on her mind was getting her purse back,” the 78-year-old sister said. “The people inside the van could have had a gun and shot in her in the face because that's straight where she was.”

Police later arrested Smith. The victim got her purse and some property back.
