A St. Louis man was charged for stealing hundreds of dollars worth of DVDs from a South County Walmart.

Police said 23-year-old Johnathon William Lyles was seen on security video putting 42 DVDs from a display into a purse and carrying them out of the Walmart in the 3000 block of Telegraph Road. The value of the goods stolen was more than $750.

The following day, Lyles returned to the store and allegedly put a rolling suitcase into a shopping cart and filled the suitcase with 75 DVDs.

Authorities said Lyles then took the suitcase with him to the store's automotive department, where there is a store exit but no cash-registers.

Police, who had reportedly been aware of the theft in progress, caught Lyles when he left the suitcase to take a cell-phone call inside the store.

Inside of the suitcase, Lyles had allegedly placed more than $1,300 worth of DVDs.

After his arrest, officials said Lyles admitted to stealing the DVDs and said he sells them in north St. Louis to make money for food and clothing.

Lyles was charged with one count of felony theft and one felony count of attempted theft.
