ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A 22-year-old man was shot while driving along Interstate 70 late Monday night.

The man was driving eastbound approaching Grand when he was shot in the leg around 11:15 p.m.

After the man and his passenger heard the gunshots they exited the highway and contacted police. When officers arrived at the location, the victims were gone, police said.

The victims then drove to the 4600 block of Martin Luther King and called police a second time.

The driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The vehicle's other passenger was uninjured.

Neither of the victims could provide a description of the suspect(s) or the suspect's vehicle, according to police.

Monday night's shooting was the fifth shooting along St. Louis interstates since the beginning of 2015.

Two men were killed on April 20 when the occupants of two vehicles shot at one another on Interstate 44 near Hampton. In March there were two other drive-by interstate shootings, one on Interstate 44 and the other on Interstate 70.

The investigation into Monday night's shooting is ongoing.
