ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Police have charged Keith Wright, 24, with first degree murder in Tuesday morning's double homicide.

Ricos Boyd, 26, and 25-year-old Shayla Carter were shot in the 3600 block of North Newstead at approximately 3:30 a.m.

According to police, the victims were found outside of a vehicle with numerous gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

During the police investigation, authorities determined that Wright and his unnamed significant other were at their residence when Boyd and Carter arrived at the home.

Boyd was the unnamed individual's ex-boyfriend, according to police, and the individual eventually got into a fight with Carter.

Police said Wright then shot Boyd and then Carter multiple times. Both victims died of their injuries.

The residence is located in the city's Greater Ville neighborhood, which is one of the areas that police have been using hot-spot policing in an attempt to decrease crime.

This is the St. Louis area's 72nd homicide so far this year. By the end of May 2014, there were a total of 52 homicides, and in 2013 there were 38 by the end of May.

Wright is charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action.
