CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Police said thieves used a little punch tool to steal from three cars near the Hyatt Place at Chesterfield Mall.

A family from Nebraska that was staying at the hotel said their car was broken into shortly after they checked into the hotel.

“I pulled the car around to unload some of our stuff and that's when some of us said ‘Where's my bag? Where's my iPad? Macbook Pro? iPhone?,” said burglary victim Kevin Smith.

The Smith family said around $4,500 worth of items were taken from their car.

Chesterfield police said the driver's door was punched by tool that was used below the lock. Authorities said two other cars near the hotel were also hit.

The hotel does not have security cameras, so there is no footage of what happened. News 4 reached out to the hotel for a comment on its security, but repeated calls were not returned.
