CALVERTON PARK, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A Hillsdale man was charged for allegedly assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop in Calverton Park.

Two Calverton Park police officers pulled over 27-year-old Dewey West for driving without headlights on. West was reportedly driving without a license.

After obtaining permission to search West's vehicle, officers found and seized a loaded .22 caliber firearm from the car.

When officers attempted to arrest West on charges of driving without a license, West ran across four lanes of traffic on North Florissant Road, according to police.

The officers chased after West and tried to arrest him. West then allegedly kicked one of the officers in the face.

West was charged with assault on an officer in the second degree, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm.

West is being held on $25,000 bond.
