LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A Lincoln County man was arrested Friday night after his gun discharged while he was racking it. 

According to police, John Christopher Harris, 53, told police he had been drinking alcohol all day and took his prescribed dose of Xanax before his Beretta 9mm handgun discharged, striking his neighbor in the leg.

The victim told deputies he was struck in the left leg by the bullet while he was walking to a back bedroom. The bullet did not penetrate the victim's leg and was recovered from inside the home, police said.

Harris, from the first block of Blue Bunting Circle, was arrested and charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon while intoxicated. He is currently being held at the Lincoln County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
