Man rescued after being trapped under vehicle in Alton

ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Emergency crews in Alton were called to a report of a trapped person under a vehicle Friday afternoon.

Police said they were called to the 300 block of west 12th Street in Alton around 3:00 Friday. Firefighters said a man was working on his Mazda van which was parked in his driveway when the car began to roll towards his home. Fearing his home would be smashed, he jumped in front of the van to try to stop it.

Firefighters said the van smashed into the house pinning the man under the front of the van and between the van and the house. According to firefighters, a neighbor who works for a towing company saw or heard what happened and attached a towing cable to the van, stabilizing it.

Firefighters said it only took them 10 minutes to free the man because of the neighbor's help. The man had been trapped for 10-15 minutes when firefighters arrived.

The man suffered non-life threatening injuries was conscious and breathing when he was taken to a hospital.
