Man comes face-to-face with two robbers at South City home

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A man said he came face-to-face with two armed burglars as they broke into his home in the Bevo neighborhood.

Jared Brooks said two men knocked on the door of his home in 4300 block of Taft in the Thursday night. Brooks said the two men, who were not wearing masks, forced their way into the house when he answered the door.

“Two guys with guns out their guns up and told everyone to get to the ground,” Brooks said.

Brooks said the crooks forced his mother, father, and himself to the ground face down. Brooks believes the men knew he was coming home from work, and may have followed him home.

“They got quite a bit of money. I'm a barber so it was an accumulation of two weeks-worth of money, so they got over a grand,” Brooks said.

Police said the suspects also stole phones and wallets.

Robberies in the Bevo Mill neighborhood have doubled since 2014. Police opened a new substation in the neighborhood after residents became concerned about crime. Brooks and other residents told News 4 they do not expect the substation to have an effect immediately, saying it will take time for it to have an impact.
