NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) - A homicide investigation is underway after a teenager was shot while inside a North County home Monday night.

Sixteen-year-old Jamon Spates, of Florissant, was found with a gunshot wound to his back lying in the family room of a home in the 1200 block of Redman just before 11:30 p.m.

Neighbors told News 4 Spates was a lovely young man.

According to police, a group of five to ten teens were in the street when several gunshots were fired at them from the intersection of Redman and Lavida Avenue.

"Once all of the shots were fired, all of the other teens ran for cover, but [Spates] ran into a home and was treated by police and medics," said Sergeant Aaron Schafer of St. Louis County Police.

Spates was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.

The St. Louis County Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating the murder.
