ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A suspect is in custody in North County after allegedly leading officers on a chase through St. Louis City while a woman sat inside the car trying to escape.

The incident began in Hillsdale where police saw a silver car speeding down Kinlan.

“Observed that the passenger door was hanging open,” said Hillsdale Police Chief Herb Simmons, “a feeling was hanging out of the vehicle [and it] appeared the driver was trying to pull her back in the vehicle. [The officer] could hear the female screaming, ‘Help me, help me.'”

The 40-year-old suspect lead police through the city before blocking the car at the intersection of Waterman and Debaliviere in the Central West End. The suspect's vehicle struck a passing car before it rammed into a Hillsdale patrol car.

The woman jumped from the car before the crash, police said.

According to a police report, officers had to remove the suspect from the vehicle. The suspect allegedly became combative and was tasered and arrested.

Illegal narcotics were found on the suspect, said police.

The suspect was transferred to a hospital for medical observation.

Authorities said the suspect could be charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and kidnapping.
