Godfrey man pleads guilty to robbery charges

EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- A Godfrey man pleaded guilty Friday to one count of bank robbery and two counts of interference with commerce by robbery.

Joseph E. Schwank, 24,robbed an Alton Pizza Hut on Feb. 23, a US Bank in Alton on March 2 and a Bethalto Domino's on March 3. 

Schwank's sentencing is set for Sept. 16 and he faces up to 60 years in prison. 

On Feb. 23, Schwank walked into the Pizza Hunt in Alton wearing a disguise and carrying a bag. He told an employee to "put the money in the bag."

On March 2, Schwank gave the teller a note that said "don't be a hero put all the money in your cash register on the counter for me robbery." 

The next day, Schwank went to a Domino's and yelled, "This is a robbery. Give me all the money you have."

Schwank stole $1,613 from the bank, $475 from Pizza Hut and $53 from Domino's.
