ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Friday was a day of remembrance for the 164 men who gave their life protecting the City of St. Louis.

More than a thousand law enforcement officers, friends and family came together at the America's Center for the annual St. Louis City Police Memorial Breakfast.

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson, along with the Philadelphia Police Commissioner, said it has been a trying year for the law enforcement community.

“You can't go through the experiences…every profession has its problems. Law enforcement is no different, but if we work together, we can be better because of it.” Dotson said.

News 4's Robin Smith was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event.
