ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A historic home was damaged after a late night fire in Alton, Illinois Wednesday.

The fire occurred in the 600 block of Alby Street at a home that was built in the 1800's.

Over 20 firefighters, including officers from East Alton, were called to battle the blaze that is believed to have started in the basement at 11:40 p.m.

According to fire officials, the fire burned the kitchen floor, causing appliances to fall into the basement.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious.

No injuries were reported.
